President’s Message

Welcome to the Ivy Foundation!

Hello and thank you for visiting our website.

As President of the Ivy Foundation, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you. Our mission is dedicated to making a tangible difference in the communities of Manatee and Sarasota Counties in Florida, and we are excited to share our initiatives with you.

We are proud to partner with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter to fulfill our mission, and we are in T.U.N.E. to the needs of our community. We will Transcend, Unite, Nurture, and Empower our members and the community we serve.

Under the dynamic leadership of our International President, Danette Anthony Reed, this administration has six initiatives. Strengthen Our Sisterhood is the administration’s “Foundation Initiative” as we strengthen our bonds to support our service mission.

The remaining five initiatives are the “Program Initiatives,” which include:

  • Empower Our Families
  • Build Our Economic Wealth
  • Enhance Our Environment
  • Advocate for Social Justice
  • Uplift Our Local Community

At the heart of our efforts are two pivotal programs: our scholarship awards and the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP™). Through our scholarship program, we aim to provide educational opportunities to deserving students, empowering them to achieve their academic and professional goals. At the same time, CHIPP addresses the pressing issue of childhood hunger by ensuring that children in need receive nutritious meals and essential resources.

These programs are made possible by the generous support of individuals like you. Your contributions not only fuel these initiatives but also foster hope and positive change.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our work, the impact of our programs, and how you can get involved. Your support is crucial in helping us continue our mission and reach more individuals who can benefit from our programs.

Thank you for your interest in the Ivy Foundation. Together, we can build a brighter future and create lasting change in our community.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Casmere L. Thomas

Members Celebrate 118 Years of Service during AKA Founders' Day Celebrations

On January 18th, The members of The Ivy Foundation concluded our Founders’ Day Celebration Week by gathering in worship and sisterly fellowship at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Palmetto. We extend heartfelt gratitude to Reverend Ron Shipp and his lovely wife, Sister Lena, for their gracious hospitality and spiritual guidance.  Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter's President, Theresa Scott, delivered powerful and eloquent remarks highlighting Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 118-year legacy of service, emphasizing the enduring bonds of sisterhood that unite us, strengthen our purpose, and propel our commitment to uplifting the communities we serve—now and for generations to come.  During his inspiring sermon, Rev. Shipp spoke to the importance of intentionality, encouraging us to reach back and lift others during times of uncertainty. He reminded us that Alpha Kappa Alpha women are called to serve, chosen to lead, and sent to shine—a message that resonated deeply with chapter members.

Thank you to all of the members who joined us for worship and the fellowship brunch. It was a meaningful and memorable way to close another remarkable Founders’ Day celebration while also honoring the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
A very special thank you and heartfelt shoutout to members Tafara Callaway-Ackerman, Lucia Callaway, Sonya Sanders, Mae Ethel Johnson, Jacky Jones, and Theresa Scott for thoughtfully organizing and hosting such a wonderful brunch experience.

On January 15th, the members of The Ivy Foundation came together in sisterhood and service by packing hygiene kits to uplift and empower your females in our community all while celebrating 118 years of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. providing service to all mankind.  Service is our legacy, and sisterhood is our strength.
